Well said Paul, and I wholeheartedly agree with you. I post but often wonder who am I posting for? They say to talk about what you post, so I started writing down the names of the pieces which lately have been in other languages, yet no one engages, no one is curious as to what the name means, so who out there am I engaging with? Thanks for your sharing your words and thoughts.
I just looked at your posts now. (Beautiful work btw) Which is another problem, Instagram doesn’t share posts with your own followers. So if not for our followers then really, who?
There's quite a bit open for discussion in here, cuz. But I think the crux of it for me is this: pruning is an important part of curating. And like any good gardener tending to their plot, you're in pruning mode.
Ross! So so happy to see a comment from you! Appreciate you reading. And you are right, of course. I am pruning for sure, though perhaps not flowers, bushes or trees....but weeds.
I absolutely get it, Paul. It’s interesting that I’ve been considering doing the very same thing. We met at a gallery, and that connection could never have been made via social media. In fact every meaningful connection and friendship my wife and I have made has been courtesy of openings and orgs like Pro Arts Jersey City.
I need to hone my craft, and keep working at it. That’s job one. There is at least one book if not more that I’m hoping to publish, and that requires focus, the kind that you’ve alluded to. We’ll definitely get there!
I have felt a lot of the things you have described. I was initially excited about social media. I believed it would connect me with new art and audiences. I am grateful for having connected with some great people, especially you. But as time has gone on, it has become less and less about connecting creatively and more about marketing a commodity. I'm looking to build my website into something great, as you have. I am and will continue to be a fan of yours.
As Sean said above, we didn’t meet via social media. The website is the right work. Books like you have already done. And getting out there. That’s what matters.
